The Ugly Truth Behind 'High-Protein' Muesli/Oats

Ready to get shik-shak-shock?

Welcome to the third edition of Tastes like a Cheat Meal. You can read others here - https://newsletter.proskii.in/.

For first timers, this is Proskii’s weekly newsletter. Both me (Yash) and Rohit hate reading long emails / blogs, so we usually keep these short and promise to not spam your loving soul

SACH MAI!! AMRITSARI CHOLE KULCHO KI KASAM

That’s us

When Rohit and I(Yash), two corporate majdoors, decided to take fitness seriously, we did the usual:

💪 Hit the gym
🥗 Cleaned up our diet
🍳 Started hunting for high-protein breakfast options

And that’s when we saw it : ‘High-Protein Oats’, ‘Protein Muesli’ all proudly flexing 15g, 18g, even 20g of protein on the label

Sounded perfect……until we actually flipped the box

And we had the exact reaction like below 😳

"Hey Maa Mataji!"

Turns out, most of these ‘high-protein’ cereals? They’re just regular oats or muesli with a handful of soya chunks tossed in.

That’s it.

No magic formula.
No real innovation.
Just cheap oats + soy chunks + a premium price tag.

And the worst part? They charge you 3x for something you could make in your own kitchen.

Bro, we felt scammed.

To be clear—our problem isn’t with oats or soya. The problem is brands using basic, cheap ingredients and calling it ‘high-protein’ just to hike up the price.

The reason? Because, oats and muesli are essentially grains that have mostly carbs with very little protein (about 4–5 g protein per 40 g).

🥛 So how do brands “boost” the protein?
They just throw in soya powder or soya chunks—because soya is cheap, has high protein content, and increases the number on the label

This messes up the taste and texture of the cereal, making it dry and grainy

To cover up this disaster, brands dump high amounts of sugar and salt, completely defeating the whole purpose of being "healthy."

And hence from CEREALS, they end up becoming CEREAL KILLERS

So, next time when you see a high protein cereal - check the label:

Is it really high-protein? Or just high-marketing? 🤔

📢 Reel of the Week:
We’ve started a new series named “Proskii Broskii” where me (Yash) and Rohit get candid about our experiences in life and building Proskii. Have a look and let us what do you think

P.S : Early Broskiis get better access to the crunch, latecomers get FOMO. Join the waitlist here —> https://tally.so/r/w8RVXo
