🤔 “Is Protein only for people like Salmon Bhai?”
Let’s be real—when you hear the word protein, you probably think of dudes like salmon bhai in tight gym tees chugging whey shakes, flexing in the mirror and saying
“Jab tak protein na jave, tab tak body na bane!” (Idk why does he sound Haryanvi)
But here’s the thing: Protein is not just for gym bros (or gym didis). It’s for literally everyone—whether you deadlift or just lift your laptop every morning.
And I know what you’re thinking… "But I don’t even work out, why do I need protein?"
Good question. Here’s why even your dadi needs it:
✅ Not just for biceps – Protein keeps your bones, skin, and even hair healthy (yes, even that receding hairline).
✅ Energy booster – Ever felt sleepy AF at 11 AM? Yeah, blame your carb-heavy, protein-less breakfast.
✅ Faster metabolism – Your body burns more calories at rest when you eat enough protein.
✅ Snack cravings? – Protein keeps you full, so you don’t attack the fridge every 2 hours.
✅ Muscles, duh – Even if you don’t lift, your body still needs muscle to function properly.
📊 So How Much Protein Do You Even Need?
There’s a simple formula (don’t worry, no maths class vibes here):
Gym-goers/Athletes: 1.2 - 2.0g per kg of body weight
Sedentary Lifestyle (Work-from-home warriors, office folks): 0.8g per kg
Older Adults: 1.0 - 1.2g per kg (because muscle loss speeds up with age)
Example: If you weigh 70 kg and live a sedentary lifestyle, you still need 56g of protein daily!
Just for my mom: Mummy that’s roughly 8 bowls of dal (so just one bowl of dal won’t do the justice - sorry mummy!)
If you're undereating protein, your body will remind you in ways you might not even realise:
Short-Term Effects:
🥱 You’re always tired – Your energy crashes faster than your Monday motivation.
🍕 Constant snack cravings – Because your body is literally begging for better fuel.
🐌 Slow metabolism – Your body starts conserving energy (aka, storing fat).
Long-Term Effects:
💪 Muscle loss – Your body starts breaking down muscle instead of fat
🦴 Weak bones & joints – More injuries, more pain, not fun.
😵 Brain fog – Ever walked into a room and forgot why? Yeah.
🩸 Poor immunity – Your body struggles to repair itself, making you fall sick more often.

We’ve begun taste trials for our protein-packed cereal at IIT Delhi’s food labs. Fun fact: The first batch tasted like a mix of protein powder and sadness. Don’t worry, we’re improving it. I’ll (Yash) will be heading down to Delhi in April to finalise manufacturing and packaging vendors whilst also taste a couple of samples that have been prepared so far.
